Well, DAZ has a lot of free resources too, I think i’m gonna give it a shot. If it turns out to be too cumbersome I’ll buy the poser pro, $60 is not that much I guess 🙂
So no one around here uses Poser. Interesting. My avatar is with indoor lighting. No request? OK.
@early I think Cadi uses poser. I choose DAZ because the software itself is free, only the good content is paid. I wasn’t shure on paying for software I don’t know if I’m gonna use. Although I’m not excluding the possibility of trying Poser just to have a comparision between the two.
What are HDRI environmental lights?
@early HDRI enviromental lights are special enviroment textures loaded onto a sphere that surrounds your scene. The light is calculated by the colors of the image/texture. HDRI is mainly used by the Nvidia Iray engine tho.
Yes, the newer Version of Poser are able to do it, but i never used it myself. Everything works good with the usual normal lightning, and as long it works for me, i see no reason (and no patience) to watch all the tutorials for it 🙂
I can see where HDRI might be used, but none of my scenes have needed it. When it shows up in a new setting, I get rid of it. In special situations, I can see that it would help the reality of the scene, like near a campfire or explosion.
With indoor lighting, I use point light where light-bulbs would be, making them weaker and each casting its own shadow. Also the fill light is used to bring out details in the shadows. Shadows done this way are interesting. Where they criss-cross from the different light sources, the shadows multiply to have different degrees of darkness. I think my avatar has two light sources and a fill light. Fills don’t have shadows.
Also there is back lighting which I hadn’t mentioned. Used at the right time, it can really make an figure stand out.
yeah @early that’s how I do it too (but in DAZ). 99% of my stuff is indoor scenes anyway so I’m using ambient illumination with falloff + spotlight with different types of shadows or with specular light only. Although currently I’m working on a comic which will involve one outdoor scene so I’m looking for different lighting options.
@cadi just a quick question about props for Poser – apart form stuff from Davo – are there any other resources for Poser specifically for dolcett/gynophagia theme?
Not to cut in, but besides DAZ3D, I have purchased props from renderosity.com and renderotica.com for Poser. What is hard to find is just plain clothing, like Levis, t-shirts, sweat shirts, sweaters, skirts, etc. Everything sold is so fancy and from different periods or sci-fi.
Just like Bod said, renderosity and renderotica are the perfect places. There you find all you need. And with the Dolcett theme, i didnt find any better then Davo.
@early haha same problem here 😀 But fortunately there is some free plain cloting on ShareCG website like dresses, pants etc. Not the best quality but you get the idea. But the thing about sci-fi is true, there’s so much of it 😛
Another problematic prop for me are general “landscapes”. I’m going to do a scene with a bunker enterance and I wanted to put it somewhere .. like in the middle of a rocky/mountain-ish lanscape or something like that. Not much to choose from, even taking into account commercial products.
Well @cadi I guess I’m gonna stick to Davo and his “Hell’s Kitchen” or “Cannibal kitchen” sets 😀 I just though since Poser is abit more popular, maybye there’s something more.
Ahh and @cadi and @early , how about we create a separate topic in which we could catalog all our favorite (free and paid) products for rendering? like with links etc. @cadi and @early you could do a topic for Poser and I could do a topic for DAZ 😀
